I thought that smell-me-good crud was only for the alky-burners...I guess you COULD put it in with regular dino petrol, I just know it's kinda pricy.
I've got a spare Holley Blue and coil layin around. Now all I gotta do is get an injector and hook up all the wires just right and we'll be in business...
On a side note, my Scoutmaster from my old Boy Scoutin' days said that he had a setup on an old Plymouth he had. He had dual quads, and he had the second carb set up to run rich. He ran a coil wire to a plug in his tailpipe and when revving up his engine, he'd just hit the switch and throw fireballs out the pipe.
I have GOT to do this...might have it done by the time you get down here, Ivan.
Man, now i'm going to dig through all my school stuff, oh boy might take a day or two.
I do know that the coolest flame tests were the ones that burned purple and red (i think iron oxide aka rust, burns a neat cool) Sulfur burns a neat colour i remember, and sodium sulfate burns a bright orange.
Propane: You can use it, but it requires a good supply of oxygen to ignite. Look at the tubes of a gas grill between the regulator and the burner. There are big openings in the tubes to mix air with the propane. You'll also go through a LOT of propane (ie. you could empty a coleman lantern sized cylinder in under a minute).
Fuel line: You really should use braided. Steel is to rigid for all the vibration you'll get with the exhaust, and Rubber won't hold up to the pressure of the FI pumps. I have steel on mine now for testing purposes but will be puting in braided when I'm done.
Ivan,
I put the seats in last night and decided to hold off on the roll bar until I get my new chop saw for x-mas. I'll put the dash back together tonight enough to test the flames.
By monday, I'll either have pix of the flames or be at St. Mary's Burn Center sucking my food through a straw.
What should/would you use to get the fuel from the line into your exhaust pipe? Do you let it flow in there and just blow out the tail end? That's why I was thinking something to mist it in there. Any takers?
And could I use a fuel injector without being wired? Or are they always closed?

A fuel injector off something. You figure, the whole system might take a 70 or 80 lb fuel pump, but if you're only using 1 injector, ouldn't you only need 10 lbs of fuel pressure? Or is my math wrong...otherwise, you could take a REAL tiny drill bit and poke a bunch of holes (like, needle-size) in a piece of tubing crimped at one end. Anything to get the fuel to go from a liquid to a vapor. But then again, if the then engin is running, then most any liquid being sprayed out the tailpipe in small volumes will atomize. I think...maybe I'll try that tonight...I'll let you guys know how it goes.
I suppose you could use a fuel injector, but I have no expierience with them and have no idea how they work.
I use a nitrous fan spray nozzle (fogger nozzle) in each pipe.
They're about $10 each and they require a jet which runs around $1 each. You will have to play with jet size because every exhaust system is different.
You should also use braided fuel line to handle the vibration of the pipes and the pressure of the pump. I'm using metal brake line for testing purposes but am getting braided.
You guys got me all excited about getting this running now. I just have to put the dash back in and tune my rebuilt carb first. Hopefully, that'll be done tonight.
Friday night (actually Saturday morning) and still no flame! Got the truck running and carb tuned, but I think the jets are too big. Burned up the relay too so I went to the bar and tipped a few back.
Gotta go to the store in the a.m. and hopefully find some smaller jets.
No matter what, SOMETHING will be on fire by tomorrow night.
Well, I did get flames. Unfortunately, the flames weren't coming from the exhaust, but from the relay in the spark circuit. Must have missed something in there somewhere so I'll have to check my diagrams again and find the problem.
I have some pix of the whole setup that I'll post when I get to work Monday.
Damn electricals . . . I really want to see this thing running! I messed around with trying to get sparks using the Duraspark ignition and a coil a while back but I couldn't get it to work. Your setup sounds pretty simple which I like.

The duraspark works, I will look at how i have it wired and let you know.
