Pastmaster, How do you tell the differance between standard Sylvania's and "long life"? Does it state on the packaging? The Sylvania's that I have do have the black base and I rarely have to touch them. I have them on two of my heavy trucks. Normally, the bulbs crap out from the heavy hammering of driving down the road and on job sites. These are drywall trucks and the bouncing and hammering of the boom in the rear of the truck can take a toll on everything back there. These bulbs do last much, much longer than the traditional 1157's. Jake.
Jake, they DO say longlife on the package. The bulbs also have the number and then a LL at the end. Our trailer lights never last very long at all, even with LL series. I don't know if you familar with trouble light bulbs, but you can buy a light for them called "Severe Duty" or "rough duty" that's designed to be abused/shaked and still last awile? You can order lights that constitute the same thing for trailers or hd trucks like yours. They are special order, although you might be able to find them, and they are more expensive, but they last a long time.
All this time and I thought I was the only one seeing this. Why is it only GM vehicles ? I cannot believe how many I see with one tailight out. GM quality not job 1.
Pastmaster, I will look into the severe duty bulbs as well as check the ones I already have for the "LL". One thing I do remember is that the bulbs that I have seem to be built rather heavy. There are several metal supports inside of the bulb for the filament. Jake.
Pastmaser, I will check them out plus look into the severe duty ones. One thing I do remember is that the bulbs that I have do have actual metal supports built inside the bulb for the filiments. It caught my eye the last time I changed one.
The bulb get's extremely hot too. The sun get's almost to the point of melting the lens. Or at least here it does, and the bulb won't last. You should see what it does to headlight lens after about 10 years. They have to be replaced.
