Help! HUB issue

The “used” truck I bought has one hub that reads AUTO – MANUAL on the driver’s side and MAUAL – FREE on the passenger side. My 1999 F250 CC should have the auto-manual.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

My questions are; will this wreck anything on the hub? Where can I purchase a used/discounted AUTO-MANUAL replacement hub?

<o></o>

Also, purchased a diesel fuel filter from the Ford dealership last night and it had its own filter, inside a paper like screen. Is this a good thing? I’ve read where people clean the metal screen and just put in a filter. I kept the old parts just in case.

Don't know about the hub thing I would not even want to comment on that.

As for the filter useing old parts I have never found to be good if you have the new parts.

Thanks,

My confusion comes from reading old posts; I’m new to diesels and FTE. People talk about cleaning the screen and installing a new filter. I’m just saying, that the new Ford filter I bought was an all-in-one deal. And, you just drop the unit in and your done…..no mess.

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

The old one that I took out has a metal screen that looks like it could be cleaned and reused if you could get the internal element the fits inside it. But why would you want to do this, when you can just drop in a whole new filter element. Are there benefits (besides cost) to reusing the metal screen part.

The Ford dealer told me that the 4X4 hub thing is alright, but I have to get out and manualy lock the "odd" one if I put it 4-wheel drive. I'll watch ebay for a manual/aotomatic one. The dealer wanted $300.00 for a new one.

If you live where it snows you may want to pick up a new auto hub but ther big money. With normal hubs that are much stronger if ther locked and you can shift on the fly in to 4 hi You need to stop all ways for 4 lo I 4 wheel a lot in the desert and run normal hubs. just unlock them for the high speed highway runs. A littel more work but i know they are locked before im in to deep. and need a tow

The screen is inside the filter housing.
