ok, well i want to go from hyd to solid lifters in my 92, 351w. how easy is it to change to them, and are there any drawbacks? cause im pretty aware of the pluses of the solids. but what are the pluses to the Hyd's?
Can't you go to roller hydraulics? The Plus of Hydraulics is you don't have to fiddle with them. You want to pull the valve covers and fool with valve adjustment regularly? Or drive around clicking and clacking like many pre-86 BIIs?
Unless you have a specific reason for going to solids, stick with the hydraulics. As far as change over, cam and lifters, pushrods, possibly rocker arms and valve covers (depends on how the geometry changes and lift).

well i plan on switching to hyd rollers. but thats farther down the road, im just doin a fast build up of this motor cause my 302's takin a crap. but a lil farther ima stroke it and put rollers in it
Unless you convert your valvetrain to adjustable there is no way to set your lash for the solids. There are two ways to convert; Cranes' valvetrain conversion (bolt on, and does work) or have the heads converted by a machine shop the right way.
Also, if your still using the EFI you will have problems from the knock sensor detecting the valve chatter as detonation. This will cause the ECU to retard timing. IMO it's not worth the trouble in your situation.
FWIW;
you CAN use solid lifters with a hydr cam. The specs will vary, just degree the cam to figure out the valve timing.
