I'm fixin to have some dark window tint in my truck but I'm afraid of it coming out lookin like crap. (Pealing, bubbles, etc.). Does anyone have any good sugestions so I can avoid this problem. Thanks.
If your doing just the side and rear windows it's pretty easy to do yourself . I did my truck and it wasn't hard at all , turned out really good . Just follow the instructions and you'll do fine .
I had mt front windows tinted to come close to matching mt read windos on my crew cab by california tint. It looks great but it does make it a little difficult to back up on a dark night. Sometimes I have to roll the front windows down to see!!
Follow the directions with the tint, and I used my wifes Pampered Chef spatula (sp?) like a squeege and NO air bubbles, and no scratches to the tint either.
If this is your first tinting, watch yourself with them. They take a little getting used to. Be CAREFUL just as it is getting dark, it's real easy to miss seeing someone if they don't have their lights on. And like was said above - I have to put my windows down to back up at night - even with my aftermarket reverse lights.
I'd have a reputable shop (who will waranty it) do it, ask if they do any kind of baking process. I've even heard of spray on tint, but I've never seen it.
Remeber to check out the laws on window tinting, I've heard of officers giving the driver a razor blade and making them remove the tint on the side of the road!!
I had the fronts done on my 03 Expedition. After much research, I used a company that offered a lifetime war-ran-tee against fading, peeling, & most importantly turning purple. They also had a computer controled cutting system that pre-cut the sheets to fit my truck exactly. Perfect fit & no blade on my glass.
Thanks for the advise guys. my 2000 had dark factory tint on the back window and the ext. cab windows so I do have experience with it at night. I never thought to check about warranty with it. Thanks.
On top of what everyone else has said, NEVER USE AMMONIA ON YOUR WINDOW TINT. Make sure any cleaner you or the detail shop uses is ammonia free!!! This is what causes fading and peeling over time.
