Window tint question

Hi all,
I'll be getting my front window's tinted on the truck, and I'm just wondering(for those of you that have your front windows tinted) as to what you guys have your tint "shade" at ? (There's a certain level of tint, I have no clue how the numbers work ) How do you like the tint ?

mine are all at 5%.... brings the windows to below 3% with the dark factory glass.... look at my gallery if you want to see what it looks like. i have no problem with it, but my old lady has a hard time seeing out during the day and refuses to drive the truck at night because she can't see.... you will also ask for tickets..... but hey, the price to be cool, right?

Ok, look's like I'll be getting the 5% for the front's then
How much should I be looking for up front for tinting 2 windows ? $75-$100 or so ? I take it tinting the windshield is illegal as well ? Is your windshiled tinted ??

You can also look at my pics....I have a little bit of tint too.

My truck came completely clear so here's what I have (% is light transmission, the lower the number the darker the tint.):
2 layers of 5% on the rear window, rear doors, and top 14-16" of the windshield.
And the front doors have 1 layer of 5% and 1 layer of 35%.

You adjust to the darkness of it.........everyone else says they can't see anything out of my truck at night.

Personally I love the tint. Blocks out the sun real good.......and no one can see inside. Even at night if I open up the doors and the interior lights turn on you can't see inside.....you can see the lights but that's it.

Hope this helps.

Cool lookin' truck's guys ! I think I'll get the front windows tinted at 5%, and leave the windshild the way it is. My tint goal is to have the front windows looking like the rear factory tint, but not as dark, like 1 shade above that. Any cost ideas for this ?

I had the tint place match the factory privacy glass. It's pretty dark and it looks stealth with the front doors and the rest of the truck tinted the same. They should be able to match it for you. I know the place I went the gal knew exactly what to use to make it look exactly the same. My two bosses liked it so much their rigs (03 expy) and (02 supercrew) got the exact same treatment as they have the same privacy glass.

on edit: 90 bucks for the front two.

Well, I had the 35% added to front windows recently (about a year after all the other tint was done) and was charged $50 to put one layer on the front doors.....I got a better deal when I had the whole truck tinted...

A buddy of mine has his front's tinted to match the factory rear tint and I know it's not 5%........it's either 20% or 35% I can't remember which. Like RRMike said the tint place should be able to match it up to the factory windows pretty good.

Hope this helps.

Hare in Texus I couldn't even talk them into doing any more than the 35% ??? or whatever the legal limit is...

They said THEY could be fined for it???
Not sure about that statement...

But I did get a 5 inch strip across the top of my windsheild just to block the early morning and late afternoon sun...

Thanks guys, I think that's what I'll do then. I'll have the tint place match my front windows to the rear.

Thanks again for the help, and I'll post some pict's in the gallery when I get it done.

Mike

i think i paid 150 for my tint job..... i have tinted all the windows 5% (except for the windshield, which has no tint as it is VERY illegal here in california).

i am pretty sure when i got the tint done, the guy told me the factory tint (rear window and rear doors) was a little lighter then the 35% they use.

The stuff I got to explain as clearly as possible is as perfect a match as I can imagine. If they tell you they can get it close or they can find something similar keep looking. The place I went used a certain brand that is an uncanny match. Even standing right next to the truck I can't tell a difference between the front and rear windows.

What is the Factory tint on the crew cab windows and back window? I'm reading 35% as above but I though federal law was like 65% or something?

?????

The privacy glass from the factory is 20%. I recently had my CC fronts done to match the rest of the glass. I believe it was around 75.00 Good luck and remember, since 20% is illegal in most states, turn on your interior lights at night if you get pulled over. That is when you are most likely to get a ticket for a tint violation. Not seeing into a vehicle tends to make cops nervous. They like to make people pay for making them nervous.

20% that dark huh. I'm going to look into this. I live in arizona and I think the tint law on some windows is what ever you want I'll have to find out what the laws are. But I know people that have been pulled over down here with limo tint (5 - 10%) on the side and back windows and cop didn't say any thing.
