i second the colordo meeting... i would like to see what happens when we all try to out do eachother, and the looks on your faces when my 35" tires and stock lift beat you all!!! ok maybe not...
Any one else think that we would all be trailering home?? with empty wallets i might add...
Hey Josh, take a look at these shackles from AIM. They're only $65 and would allow you to get a little more (adjustable) lift out of your shackle flip. With the price being that low I may even buy a set instead of making them. http://www.truckn-store.com/product....t.asp&ID=73665
Its nice to see somebody offer those. The only thing is that with longer shackles they see greater force, and they don't look as beefy as I'd like. They could be reinforced, but I'd like to see them stouter.
Good thing about those is that they can be used either way, lift or drop (that what i used to get 2" of drop in my 82 flareside). But it wouldn't be to hard to reinforce those, get some 1/4" flat steel, cut out 3 pieces to match the 3 sides then weld the together.
Although I suppose if you're going to reinforce them you'd be better off just building your own and saving $65. Yeah, they're basically the same as the drop shackles for pavement pounders.
aight well i took some measurements of the shackles in the rear. the front shackles are 9 3/4 top to bottom and the spring eye hangs down 2 inches below the frame. then the rear shackles are 7 or 7 1/8 top to bottom and the spring eye is even with the bottom of the frame. i hope i measured these right, but if i didnt hopefully one of yall can tell me how and ill get some new measurements. i noticed that the front shackle is much bigger then the rear. i think i see what you are saying about putting the ones from the front in the rear. but hopefully i measured them right. one more thing- so are you saying that if i took the front shackles off the rear axle and moved them to the rear and flipped them, that the spring eye would be 5 inches below the frame? if that is the case then what would i need to do in the front? ive read over the post you sent me prolly like a dozen times and im starting to grasp the idea. this was posted earlier in the other thread, but now that ive seen the second page and those other gizmos that you found, would i do the flip and then bolt those to the shackle flip and then bolt the spring eye to that?
I'd love to give some good advice but unfortunately I'm confusing myself now. If you can wait a few days I'll see about installing my hangers and take all the measurements so I can post them with pictures. Maybe that will help. What I really think you should do is just install the lift on the front of the truck and then figure out what you'll need to do in the back. It's too hard to estimate otherwise and just say "I put 5" on the front, this is what I'll need to get 5" in the back." You have to remember than when you lift only one side of a spring (like with the new hangers you're getting or a shackle flip) you don't necessarily lift the truck that amount because the other end of the spring is still in the same place. A 5" hanger in the front might only raise the front end 3.5-4". Makes things too unpredictable to just say "this is what you need to do". I've given you some ideas on different options for the back but I really think the best thing will be to install the front lift and THEN figure out the back. This is what I did in my "Holy smokes" thread.
