Shackle Flip??

Have a question about my 86 F-250. Looking to put a lift in this truck. Is it possible to just do a shackle flip in the rear for some lift, and then do some new leafs in the front? I have new shackles, Hangers, and leafs for the rear. I think that should give me a good 4-5 inches in the rear if it works. What do you think?

Thanks Justin.

Out back it would be easier to just put in some lift blocks between the axle and springs. the shackle mounts are riveted to the frame.

It's doable, but don't expect anywhere near 4-5 inches. It should be closer to 1-2 inches.

One option is to return the shackle hangers and use factory front spring hangers in their place. This should get you alot closer to the 4-5 inches your looking for

A shackle flip kit with new hangers will give you the lift you're looking for over flipping stock hangers, and be much stronger. A shackle flip is always going to be a better way to lift than tall blocks... 78-97 F series Ford 4x4 Rear Shackle Flip Kit - Sky's Off-road Design The front end is a little more complicated with the D50 TTB, you'll probably be best off choosing a proper lift kit that includes new springs, shocks, and drop brackets.

Be careful with the shackle flip in the rear. It will work, but everyone including the people who make the kit seem to forget to tell you it throws your pinion angle off on the rearend. So you may get some vibration from the driveshaft. They have wedges you can buy to twist the rearend back to where it's supposed to be, you just have to figure out how much you need.
