Hey this is just a suggestion before you buy. I'm not sure of the policy on suggesting a website or anything, but check out www.carsdirect.com. Go there, put in what you want, how far you're willing to go to get it, they give you a bottomline price and you go to the dealer and sign and drive. My '04 250 XLT, FX4, V10, 4x4 listed for $39K, off the lot just under $32k. The only thing I didn't get that I did want was the 4.30 gears. That was just because they had everything else I wanted on the lot and I'm and impulsive SOB.
My '01 SB SC has gotten 16MPG a few times, but usually it's 14.5 on the highway. I have almost the shortest 4x4 SD, the only thing shorter (lighter) is the long-bed regular-cab 4x4 (and a cab-height cap helps).
In winter, the mileage drops because the air is denser - since the air is more dense, when you hit the gas like you normally do, the motor gets more air which means it needs more fuel. So, in winter months, I'm easier on the gas because the motor really puts out a bit more power.
I live on Long Island, and they have 10% ethanol because MTBE was banned - I notice NO difference in power between MTBE, ethanol, or straight gas... no difference in MPG either.
