All,

I bought my '03 v10 12 passenger E350 30K miles ago (with 26K on the clock...) and I have NO regrets whatsoever. Power, smooth acceleration, power, good gas mileage, power, and inexpensive maintenance. Did I mention the power? If I was gonna drive a full-size van, I wanted one that would MOVE when I told it to!

If it is used I would say to try to search for a brand new 2004 from a dealer, you might still find one and being that tha 2005's are out the dealer should be trying to get rid of it. Like I said earlier I paid $30,273.00 OTD with 8 miles on it. Or price a 2005 i bet it wouldn't be much more.

Should have asked this before, is it a XL, XLT, Lariat, or Kind Ranch?

I'm with ya buddy, I bot my V-10 for the same reason. I previously had a 1/2 ton 5.0 conversion van. I just HAD to have some power, I was tired of VW diesels smoking me out of the stoplights. I now can surprise alot of people if I want to with my 15 pass white behemoth of a box. And when I get my 24' travel trailer hooked on the back, and get both vehicles loaded for bear with all the camping and recreational gear a family of 7 can use in a week I can jerk all that stuff up all the hills and mountains without any problem. Truth be told I'm looking forward to the day when I don't have to haul the entire girls 12+under soccer team from Portland Oregon to Seattle for a tournament so I can drive a 390 hp Mustang or something similar. But I knew if I had to drive a big van, I wanted some steam, and I got it with the V-10. Ken

Have NO regrets!! I love every thing about this thing (power for sure) and I expected the gas mileage that I'm receiving. The only way you could pry me away from this truck is to replace it with an 05' V-10. -Ed

I absolutely love driving my V-10. I've had it for over three months now, and still grin when I jump in her and fire her up.

I'll be honest with you, I occasionally wonder if I should have spent the extra $5K. It's a sickness I have; always wanting bigger/faster/stronger tools/toys.

But when I start second guessing my choice, I ask myself "Is there anything I ask of this V-10 that it doesn't deliver? Any task it doesn't handle?" And the answer is a resounding "No!" This truck effortlessly handles everything I throw it's way.

The only 2 times I can imagine regretting the V-10 purchase are...

1) Develop the need to regularly tow 12,000 lbs. Not likely.

2) Decide to try to sell it to a private party. This is a real drawback. Even though I think the perceived advantage of the PSD is greatly exagerated, the perception itself is very real. A diesel will, in my estimation, be much easier to sell. Fortunately, I'm so happy with my truck that I can't see selling it anytime soon.

Bottom Line: If my V-10 got totalled today, I'd take the insurance check straight to the FORD dealership and buy another V-10.

Love the V10, like mentioned earlier, it does everything I ask of it and in return asks for more.

Nothing like hearing 10 cylinders scream at 0430 in the morning going to work. I love my V-10, I miss my 460 but the v-10 has done everything, and gets better mileage doing it.

I respectfully disagree with ya on that point. I think a V10 Superduty in good condition will sell very fast to a private buyer. In fact, I think Superduties in general are easy to sell. The local Ford dealer has a large lot of used vehicles and all of the heavy-duty (3/4 and 1 tons) turn over very fast.
I think alot of guys want them but can't afford to buy new, and of course there's always people looking to save some $$ over a new SD by buying used for their business. Contractors and builders don't have a need to spend $35000 for a new F250 that they know is going to get worked hard and beat up pretty quick.

This bit about gas-engine Superduties being impossible to sell is I think another myth propagated by diesel buyers in another attempt to justify their purchase of a $5000 diesel!

I would completely agree with your last statement if it were not for the extreemly high dedication towards the Diesel motor most of the folks around my area have. Of course this has worked to my advantage several times. The central Texas used truck market is so inflated that many used trucks over 6 years old still command over 70% of original price. Fortunatly there is such a nose in the air stigma against the gasser trucks that they sell used for far below relative market value. I have many many friends and co-workers that were tickeled to death to follow my recommendation and find a cherry used SuperDuty V10 for beaucoup bucks less than any other used truck.

While I got the soap box for a second, let me add that here in GI town (home of two Army Divisions) the low cost Dodge Hemi trucks sell like they are free. But what is too cool, in my opinion, is that every used car lot for three counties has dozens of these POS trucks as most GIs rapidly find out what a maintenance problem the cheap Dodge really is.

Our area Ford dealers can't sell PSD trucks fast enough. Man, I love capitolism!

MountainHound,

You may be right about that. I searched for 8 months for a used V10 Super Duty. I found very, very few of them. The ones I did find were so far from home that it was hard to justify the trip. I never knew why these trucks were so scarce. Still don't. So, I might have been out of line suggesting they'd be hard to sell.

All I can really say with confidence is that A) diesel trucks seem to sell well, B) I love my V10 enough that I'm not concerned about resale, and C) anyone debating which engine to buy should factor resale into their decision.

I've heard somewhere that less than 10% of all SD's are V-10's, which probably helps account for their scarcity. And looking at (at least the older models) the difference in HP that wasn't very much as many folks don't understand the whole torque/horsepower mystery. Diesel owners are a different breed, fiercely loyal usually. Alot of that is just because, since there's not that much difference between gas/diesel/propane/cng when it comes right down to it. A block containing a crankshaft with X-number of pistons rotating after being fired by some means. It really all comes down to personal preference, and years of use. The big auto makers aren't dumb, they have figured to the penny how much longer a diesel will last, the fuel mileage gains, etc, etc, etc. Does anyone really believe that a diesel motor costs any mfgr $6 grand more ? Or that a V-10 costs $500 more to build ? It's all been crunched by the bean counters to death. Buy what you want to drive everyday, if there was a perfect vehicle out there that served every purpose perfectly we'd not have any different models to choose from. V-10's are cool because they're different, and for your extra bucks you get 2 badges on the fenders that say "V-10". I like mine, that's enough for me, Ken

I've been seeing a lot more V10s around lately, a lot of new 05 3v ones too...

I think it has a lot to do with the increased price of diesel fuel, that $6,500 kick in the jaw you take just getting the diesel, and the noise and smell of a diesel. Dodge no longer makes a V10 for trucks.

I think the reason the VT365 costs so much more is because Ford buys it from Navistar, and that the 6.8 is a Mod motor with two more cylinders, made in house...
