You are correct on the axle code, C3 = 4.30LS. 14 MPG? HA! Best I've ever gotten was 12 mpg (all highway, cruise set at 72mph). I'm seeing around 9 to 10 mpg driving it in the city.
My 2001 Crew Cab 4x4 with the 4.30LS and auto trans gets about the same as Munkey. Cold weather drops it slightly.

Is it the cold weather or the oxygenated fuel that drops your mileage ? Colder, denser air should increase your mileage, so it must be the fuel with alcohol in it and the fact that it's oxygenated, Ken

My mileage is about like yours around town. But I have gotten nearly 14 on the interstate.

Hey I am also looking at upgrading from 1/2 ton Chevy to a SD Ford. A friend of mine has an '01 F250 4x4 crew cab, long bed, V10 with 80k miles on it. The truck is absolutely cherry, has a 12" lift, 40" tires on weld wheels, limo black tinted windows, and awesome stereo. He told me I can have it for $24k. This is about average for a truck with this much extras already done to it. My only issue is the spark plug problem these V10s seem to have. Diesels are nice but I cannot find one for under $30k with anything already done to them. So this V10 model is lookin real sweet right now. My only towing is a 4000lb. wakeboard boat. So what do you guys/gals think? Should I get this guys V10?
the owner just told me it's leaking tranny fluid everywhere right now..... I'll see what happens after he takes it into the shop... Hope its nothing sersious. I am about a month away from buying it from him
this truck with 9878 miles is up 4/sale for 31500.00 any takers? FX4 F350 CREW V10 ALL POWER 430 GEARS CAMPER,TOWING,SINGLE WHEEL LEATHER,WHITE, TAN INT.
8.8MPG GOES WITH IT......
Pay for an add in the Truck Trader or something.
It will draw a better crowd that is local to you, and probably result in a much faster sale.
You seem a bit bitter about the mileage you get from your V10 and it appears that is the reason you want to sell it after a year of ownership. (this "for sale" post is in another forum also).
Good luck to you, and maybe next time you're looking for a 1 ton truck for your commute, Honda will have come out with a hybrid.
Well, I've had my 01 f250 4x4 sc sb xlt v-10 430 for about 3 1/2 yrs now, It has 41,000 miles and I am still in love with it. The mpg sucks compared to a honda, but you won't catch me drivin a Honda, LOL. I traded in my old f150 for this baby cause I was tired of pulling my 8,000 trailer through the mountains of KY and WV at 35-40mph. I now pull the same roads at 70 in overdrive and never notice the trailer being there. Oh and with the f150 pulling those roads ...6-8 mpg, same roads, same trailer, SD V-10 ....9-10 mpg. I will be retiring in April and plan on driving this truck at least another 7-8 yrs. Any regrets? ........ NOT A ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I regret not getting the 7.3, not the 6.0. My v10 has been great (180k still runs like new), but would like to have the towing power of the diesel. My dads business has 2 7.3's and 1 6.0 ('03). I just got back from a delivery with the 6.0 and its the only vehicle that im not positive it will get me home. Both the 7.3's have over 300k and have never had a major problem. The 6.0 has 100k and spends a lot of time in the shop, and it still doesnt run right...
