I am looking for somebody with real world experience switching from a older truck 3/4 ton or Excursion with a diesel. 7.3 or 6.0..that has switched to a ecoboost and has been really happy..or maybee regrets it. I tow about 6,000 pounds acouple of times a year in the winter and was wondering if it is worth switching or not??..I currently have an Excursion with a 7.3 and was thinking of switching...
I owned an 05 F350 with a 6.0 diesel, crew cab, long bed. I tow a cargo trailer 4 months out of the year for work. It ranges from 5000 lbs to 9000 lbs. I have never been happier after owning my Ecoboost. Better ride, better fuel economy (when empty), easier to drive, lower maintenance costs, more room in interior AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT... pulls my trailer much better than the stinky, loud diesel. I will never own a one ton again. The F150 has been more than adequate. I absolutely love it.
Are all eco-boosts the same??? is there a better year than another?? Thinking of a long box because of bigger fuel tank.
If you're going with a used truck, look for a late build 2012 or a 2013 model. Even though I've NO issues with mine, some 2011 and earlier 2012 Ecoboost trucks exhibited some condensations issues in the CAC that fouled plugs and created some misfire issues. Again, not all but there have been some. An earlier model would be a safe bet if you knew that the TSB had been performed to eliminate the misfire problem.
I went from a '05 F350 6.0 to my '13 FX4 Ecoboost. The only thing I tow is a 4 place snowmobile trailer in the winter. I'm also very happy with the Ecoboost. The only downfall I'd say is the mpg's when towing.
