I've got a 1989 E150 w/ 5.0L (auto) that will not start on the first try when cold. However, if you try it again - it will start. Does anyone know how the cold start function works on these engines? Anything to do with the IAC valve?
Recent work: new plugs, air filter, fuel filter, cap & rotor. Problem was there before these were changed.
my 89 E-150 351 is the same way. Just a cranky engine. I've turned the key on, then off, then on, then off....just to prime the fuel system. No difference. and it was the same way before I installed the 351, and I used all new sensors in the swap.
It's just the nature of the system. All ford fuel injected engines do it. My 351 WILL start if I crank it long enough. It's easier on the starter to just bump it over once then again to start.
not any of my other ford 5.0 engines in either the race mustang, the 93 street GT or the 5.0 explorer. Just the cranky van. Even the kids 91 4 cyl starts and stays started.
I wonder if it might not be the auto trans moving fluid.....
However, if it is really COLD out, then it is ok. Starts and stays started.
