After initial dissapointment with my Diablo Predator I finally solved the speedometer issue. The base program had 3.08 which must be the standard for F150 SC 4.6L. I could not remember anything different when I bought it but I tried the 3.26 ratio and it was still off. I bumped it up to the 3.55 and now it agrees perfectly with my GPS. I can only assume I have a 3.55 rear axle ratio.
Any other Supercrew owners out there know what ratio you have?
I am now very happy with the Predator. I believe I see an increase in fuel economy from 14.5mpg to 19.5mpg around town but have to drive more to be certain.
Shifts much quicker and firmer and definitely has more power.
This is exactly what I'm looking for. I just bought a 2002 three weeks ago and the shifting is driving me nuts! When I hit the gas pedal, it dogs for a second while the engine speeds up and the tranny releases and then downshifts. Then when it grabs, the truck lurches forward in a huff. I need to run it back to the dealer on Monday since my 3000 mile warranty is about used up. I'm assuming that they can't or won't fix it and I'll end up having to buy a $400 chip to make the truck shift like it's supposed to shift in the first place. I would like to be wrong though.
I would not pay $400 for a chip. I would let them check it over under warranty and make sure everything is working like it should and then buy the Predator. I don't know if they will extend it until Monday or not but they had a special sale for $399 with a $50 discount/rebate and free overnight UPS shipping. $349 total and you can then set your shift RPM, firmness, and torque modulation for 1-2, 2-3, 3-4 in any combination that you want. I only had mine a couple days and after working with it for a while I finally understand how it works and have been making small changes to the shift, torque mod, wheel rev/mile, etc. I think you would be happy with it.
Not to mention all the data logging and real-time monitoring you can do with it. It gives an enormous amount of data on everything from engine coolant temp to transmision fluid temp, speed, rpm, timing, MAF and hundreds more.
I think I am the only unhappy customer on this site and now even I am happy!
Hey Dave,
Glad you got it worked out. I really want to buy the Predator but for some reason I'm hesitant. I sort of feel like I shouldn't have to buy a $400 chip for a $19000+ truck in order to make it run and shift as good as my 10 year old Ranger. But the substantial mileage increase as well as the diagnostic capabilities should make this decision a no-brainer.
OK, I talked myself into it. I'm heading over to buy the chip now, regardless of the outcome with the dealer.
At the bottom of the order screen (I assume you ordered from Motorhaven) you had to scroll down a little bit and put in a discount coupon code of 1050. I just checked and it is still there. I am sure if you call them they will honor it. Tell them if they don't I'm gonna send mine back!!!

As far as I know the ratio's for F150's are 3.55, 3.73. 4.10.
Hey Dave,
Thanks for the moral support but MotorHaven's customer assistance personnel are really on top of it. Got an email from Jolene by 9AM telling me that the $50 discount has been applied and my order is on it's way.
On a side note, I dropped my truck off at the dealer this morning to address the shifting issue along with a couple minor items. My warranty is up in another 400 miles so this is probably the last time it will see the dealership. I think the diagnostic capabilities of the Diablo will more than make up for the cost of the unit. How much is it worth to be able to read your own codes without a trip to the dealer or finding an auto parts store that might be able to send a kid out to plug a reader into your engine?
