my rear has made a loud clunking sound twice now in the past 2 days. first time I was taking off at a light and it was real loud I tought the tranny was going to fall out. then today I was driving in my pasture and had gotten stuck on a hill I stopped put it in 4whl drive and it clunked again not as loud. could this be coming from the L.S. releasing or catching?
YEah it sounds like u-joints in driveshafts. Go under the truck and play with driveshaft w/ your hands and try to rotate, shake up/down while your at it, listen or If theres some play in there then its u joints.
I've blown brand new spicer u-joints in the first trip out. Maybe that has a lot to do with the 600 hp big block and 38 inch tires.....but anyway I would say your noise is in the clutch packs of the Limited Slip...

Had the clutch packs changed about 2 months ago, my driveshaft greased twice, and now there seems to be a new problem. Sounds alot like yours Jbone. When I'm going slow over rough ground, sometimes when I step on the gas, it feels like someone hit me in the rear. It seems like the rear is slipping and then catches. I'm hoping it's not the tranny. Seems more like the rear end.
