Has anybody ever removed the transfer case actuator motor, and ran a shifter up through the floor of their Bronco II? I have not seen or heard of an adapter, and it just seems like a logical thing to do.
Actuator? These things came with electronic t cases? Every BII ive seen has had a manual transfer case.Only the newer Explorers And rangers were so equipped no?Any how that sounds like an easy swap.Whats your truck anyhow?
some of them came with the push button 4wheel drive which activated a wiper motor thing on the trans case to switch it from 2wd to 4hi and 4lo.
what you want to do sounds good. All you need to do is make it work. Let us know what happens.
It is actually an 87 with all the electric nonsense. My dad and I are trying to turn it into a trail rig for our deer camp. The switch console on the ceiling in the truck is not in real good shape, and I don't ever want to worry about not being in 4 wheel drive when I need to be. Right now it goes into 4x4 sometimes.
I can't believe no one has come up with a changeover for the Borg Warner 1350 to turn it into a manual. I don't mind cutting a hole in the floor. This hunting season, we may just take the actuator motor off, and manually put it in 4 low, and leave it since it will never be on the road.
hey people been out of touch for a minute, whats up!
i don't know about that adapter thing..
On my 86 manual shift transfercase the is a little bushing that lines everthing up if this thing is the least bit off it will not work.
my bushing wore out and let the transfer case slip in between what seemed to be low range and high range driving down the road at sixty.
A few years ago i was headed on a trip after getting a new clutch ( the same garage that left the snapped tranny Bolts left this problem as well) and after about fifteen minutes into my trip my truck made this loud bang and locked up i pushed in clutch and released it locked up i costed to a stop and let the clutch out slow and i was in now stuck in 4wd low range..I turned around and limped home at 20 mph in 5th gear 4 wheel low. pulling into the drive way it slipped into neutral and stuck turned out to be the bushing in the linkage.
this bushing is a cheap little plastic thing about the size of a half dollar....
i would not try and make my own unless you can get the tolerance down to a wafer thin peice of plastic and it still be stable .....
i have a friend with a jeep wanting to do the same thing so let me know what happpens.....
