The shifter on my transfer case (75 Crew/360/4 spd/205) makes a rattling or ringing noise while going down the highway at speed. Any tricks to eliminating this noise? I can hold the shifter with my hand and the ringing stops. I've unsucessfully tried greasing and tightening the linkage ends, strapping a bungee cord around the linkage and wrapping insulation around the shifter.
guys try taking the bolt out that holds your shifter to the t-case and buying some shim stock start with the thinest you can and wrap that around the bolt and reinstall it and keep it greased and that should elimenate your rattles

Yup, I bet the nylon bushing is gone...
You might be able to find replacements from this site's sponsors, or LMC or something like that.
Had the same problem with my '77 F150. When I rebuilt everything I had to take the tailshaft adapter (between the trans and the transfer case) to a shop and have a heli-coil installed in the shifter mount bolt hole. I installed a new set of nylon bushings and no more noise. I can't believe how nice the transfer case goes in and out of 4 wheel drive now.
I'm gonna have to try the replacement nylon bushings. I've just quieted mine with a piece of foam pipe insulation, cut to just a little longer than necessary from the handle to the floor. It worked but I suppose that doing it right would be better.
