rear main seal stuck

Today I embarked on a jurney that was soposed to be quick and simple. I went to pull the rear main seal by droping the pan (tranny is already off I figured I do the seal at the same time as a clutch job.) I then pulled the oil pump, droped the crank about 1/32" like your soposed to , pulled the rear bearing cap and stuck a screw in the upper seal. I used a screw about an inch long and griped it with pliers and beat down on the pliers. Unfortunatly I only pulled out about two inches of the seal and now I'm not sure of the easiest way to get the rest of the seal out. This is for a 400 by the way. Any answers?

Try a hammer and a piece of brazing rod with the flux knocked off of it. Grind a point on it so it doesn't dig in.

I just had the same problem yesterday.I used a piece of Electricians " Fish Tape" bent a small hook on the end an just keep working it back an forth with the screw in one side pulling on the seal and pushing the other side with the fish tape it took some time but it finally came out.

thanks guys, I finally got it with a clothes hanger and needle nose pliers. It took two hours to get it all out and then I had to blow the small chunks out and shot some eather in the hole to get the remainder of the little stuff.
