Well, just finished my DSB hearing, they did not tell me anything just that I will be notified within 10 days. The only question that they asked is if I would be willing to let them replace the Y pipe that was suggested after the DSB was filed. I said no, we are done trying with this truck.
Didn't they fully test for the for the cracked "Y" pipe before? Said that wasn't it?
Yeah, they have done the smoke test twice and 4 visual tests and tell me all is well. Darn, I forgot to mention that when they asked me if I was going to let them do the pipe. Why would I if they have said repeatedly nothing is wrong with it?
Boy...From what you are saying (and if I understand you right) don't be surprised if the DSB boys tell you to let Ford do the "Y" thing and get back with them if it doesn't work.
Wish you had mentioned that they preformed multiple tests for that condition. Probably would have stopped them cold...so to speak.
Well...hard to remember everything..especially in a telephone conference and not face to face. To bad they moved off the on-site hearing.
Tomorrow i take mine in for the Y pipe i hope that cures it getting headaches driving this thing also i have a shudder when taking off if i press the throttle about halfway down taking off from a dead stop shakes the steering wheel pretty good.
I had my 03' in 2 different times to the dealer I bought from for the fumes. Both times I got the, "we can't find a problem". Talked around town and found a name of a tech I was told to take it to at another Ford dealer. Took it in and low and behold---Y pipe cracked. Took them a couple of days, but it fixed the problem and no more exhaust in the cab. I'm still so ****ed at the other place I can hardly stand it.
Thanks for the welcome. This is my first Ford. Used to be a Chevy guy, but got a great deal on a 03' F350 with the 6.0 and couldn't pass it up. I bought the truck a couple of months ago and it had the exhaust smell from the time I brought it home. Truck had about 38K on it when I bought it. I've put another 4K on it since. There was an intake hose on my turbo that needed replacing, which they did. (Found it looking for my leak). I also noticed last week that I broke a leaf in one of my rear springs? That will be going in this week. I did buy an an exteneded warrantee for it. I love the truck and hope that I can keep it healthy!
Well,
Got the results of my DSB hearing last night and I was denied They said that I MUST take it to the dealer and let them try the Y pipe. If I do this they said that a ford field service rep had to be present.
What I do not get is that they have tested this thing out the wazoo and said that most definately it is NOT the Y pipe, and in fact only came up with this just after they knew I was filing for the DSB. They also said that since I have only had it in 2 times for the temp center not working that this does not meet the requirements nor does having it in twice for the LS not working even though neither item has ever been fixed or even attempted since they have no clue as to what is wrong.
They also said that the steering rub has been fixed when NOTHING has ever been done to fix it. I think the DSB is a joke but I had to do it so I can honestly say I tried everything before filing a lemon law claim on their sorry butts! Now they get to see the mad side of me, I wonder how much them poisoning my family for the last 5 months is worth?
Well, off to find some lemon decorations for this heap and park it at the dealer while I talk to them (on a busy saturday of course).
Yeah, I made an error not mentioning that it had been tested over and over and no leak at the pipe was ever found, or that they told me it definately was not the Y pipe. Had I been there in person I probably would have thought of it and I also think that THEY should have been smart enough to look at the file and figure that out since heck, they do this for a living, unless they look for reasons NOT to approve which is most likely IMO.
I also think it STINKS that they change the rules just before you are to present your case, the paperwork does not say it is their choice if you get to appear in person or by phone, it says it is your option.
The more I think about this the more I think I need to throw the yellow flag and call B.S.!

It just cracks me up when the manufacturer says it's the first they have heard of a problem like this. Go back in the posts and you'll see it over and over. My truck has had the same problem since day one. Some days I don't notice it at all, other days it's enough to gag a maggot. Of course when I took it in they couldn't smell anything or find anything wrong. I don't have any hissing sound, no visible soot or visible oil or diesel leaks. I notice it most of all when coasting to a stop with the brake applied and the defroster on. You can bet Ford knows what the problem is and is just trying to figure out how wide spread it is - and the cheapest fix. I'm patiently waiting because other than a little funk now and then this truck is awesome!
Well, it seems that someone at the local paper has seen my truck (see gallery) and wants to do an article on my issues with ford. Went to the dealer yesterday to schedule an appt for the slip slip slip rearend and when I parked the sales staff ran out and quickly blocked my truck in with others so it could not be seen from the street. The funny part is the service people said it needed more lemons
Service understands that I am not peeved at them, this dealer has done what Ford will allow him to do so how can I blame them? They understand that they (the dealership) is the only target I have to aim at since I don't live in Detroit and they are not happy that Ford says they have to have a babysitter (field service engineer) from Detroit if they want to work on my truck now.
Yeah, they need the advice of people who said it was bad fuel causing the exhaust in the cab What I would like is anyone with this issue in an '05 to PM me just because I am curious how prevelant this is.
Called Ford customer service to inform them of the "decorations" and the impending news article as well as the impending legal filing. I figured I would give them one last chance (am I stupid or into abuse or what?) to fix this before I had to hire an attorney and go through all the hassle of court. The service rep agreed that the exhaust thing is wrong and I shouldn't have to put up with this. They said there is nothing they can do since the DSB made their decision.
