Newer commercial trucks and trailers equipped with air brake use the "plastic" air lines and they are exposed to many harsh enviroments and survive many years .

Nylon air line can also be used with many push-lock fittings made by various manufacturers like Legris etc. Those fitting are reusable but are a mite pricey. Using nylon tube gives up some of the heat transfer characteristics of metal and it is difficult to properly slope the system for condensate drainage.
