The tailgate window will not go up. i tried jumping the motor with a battery and nothing. im guessing the motor is blown. how can i put up the window? i just dont want to keep freezing.
Its going to be a pain...but without the motor...remove the access panel inside the tailgate, disconnect the motor from the tracks and push the window up into place. then reconnect the motor so it holds it in the up postiion.
Carefully. When you find the motor, there should be 2 or 3 bolts (or rivets) holding it on. The motor should have a cog (or gear) that locks on to the cog on the track. As advised, pull the motor out and then raise the window and put the motor back in. Now if your going to go through all of this, I would suggest going ahead and replace the motor at this time unless you have circumstances out of your control like $.
When you remove the access panel, you will see, right in the middle. where the gears all come together. The main thing you want to do is to remove at least one gear so the motor no longer has control of the window. Once you raise the window, you will need to block it in the up postion until you reconnect the gears again. And yes this has to be done with the tailgate closed. Unless you remove the top, then drop the tailgate and do the work, close it, then put the top back on. But that is not recommended cause of the probability of shattering the glass is too high.
Could it possibly be a bad latch closed switch located on the right side? If the door is not closed or the saftey switch is bad, the motor will not work.
If he hooked the battery directly to the motor then the safety switch would not come into play. Now if he just hooked it to the wiring harness...then yes...the safety switch would definately have an impact. Speaking of which.......
OPENSCARS...When you say you hooked the battery to the motor....how? If you cant get to the motor to remove it, then how could you get to it to hook the battery to test it?
I put a layer of black tape around the latch bolts so the tailgate latches real solid. Also, if the key works, but not the front switch, its the bad switch. I replaced mine because it would only go down, but not up. Later I realized I could have cleaned the contacts with rubbing alcohol. And if you don't get the tail gate closed solid, nothing works.
