So I searched a number of threads concerning the rear window problems, but in the end my problem turned out to be a different problem. Having not seen it listed much I thought I should post it for future searchers.
My window was stuck in the down position, with no sound from the motor at all. Additionally, I had replaced the motor due to the worn gears just a few months ago. Knowing that, I first checked the wires in the tailgate for any worn spots or loose connections. I saw nothing there, nor were any of the fuses blown.
That leaves the safety switch on the drivers side. With the window in the down position I couldn't easily access this area inside the tailgate so i focused on the latch itself and the strike stub thing on the door post. The post is in decent shape, but the latch itself wasn't operating very smoothly. A quick shot of wd-40 loosened it up, and upon shutting the tailgate the window worked on the first try.
Not sure whats going on there, but this fixed it so maybe it will help someone else later...
You did fix the problem... hello, the window worked after you fixed a sticky latch! The WD-40 loosened the gummed up mechanism and the safety interlock switch on the latch itself engaged again. Contrary to what some would have you believe, some fixes really are that simple. But some people will have you rebuild a distributor just because the truck won't start one morning. Doesn't mean that there isn't a simpler fix if you start with the simple stuff.
i'm actually surprised at what a difference it made.. you can actually feel the difference when you shut the gate. I guess thats what 15 years of build-up can do to the latches...
..now if only i had thought of it before pulling the carpet, removing the access panel, etc....
Yeah, but the WD-40 wears out rather fast, i would advice getting some more permanent lube in that mechanism so it doesn't get stuck again, i think Grey would say graphite grease, and i agree, g_k50 would advice rebuilding the distributor... just in case... lol.
