tuckerd1--recommend any decent paint shops or on-the-side painters in or near Huntsville? Need to have mine painted but not sure if I want to do it myself or not.

I can't help at the moment, but I'll ask around. Have a friend that runs a garage. He'll probably know.

actully getting an old ranger. regular cab 80 model of some kind. the plan is to stick the biggest motor in it i can that wont twist it into a pretzel. has no motor or tranny in it right now. body is in good enough shape to butcher for a drag truck. planning to get an old f100 motor and tranny. but dont know how much i can talk the guy down to. any ideas on motor sizes, gearing or anything would be awesome. i'm looking to get it up and running by summer so i can start running it at the track

I found a guy that'll paint it for around $800 (including paint) for a base coat/clear coat job. I haven't seen a good example of his work yet, though, so I'm waiting until then to commit. Body shops around here want $2000 with me doing all the prep work and final block sanding. I'd do it myself before I paid that much--I have access to a paint booth, just never have painted one. But less than $1000 and I'll seriously consider letting someone else do it.
