Those buttons go underneath (when equipped) the odometer on the light gray section of the dash.

could you post a picture ot that tranny temp guage...i was thinking of doing the same thing...thanks

Put a transmission oil temp gauge in it's place. Yes the wires are for the 4x4 switch which replaces the coin holder when you have a 4x4.

in the XLT that is the place where the 4WD **** is, so the wires are there for it i guess, we got an xl with 4WD and it got the shift on the floor with that stupid coin holder thing, i think for sould make that spot alittle more useful, like a power point or something
