I know this seems trivial but I hate that little coin holder thing on the dash. It's useless for any big fingers getting coins in or out and it dosen't even hold enough to be practical. Problem is...I want to remove it and mount something else in that space but when I got up behind the dash there were WIRES hooked to it. Whats up with that???? Is this thing actually something else and I just thought it was a dumb coin holder? When I call the ford service departments they just seem to shrug their shoulders and say "huh" dun-know!
Maybe the wires are options for a second power point. Maybe the wires are attached so they won't get lost. If you find out for sure put another power point in.

I already have two power points and they are in a dumb spot already. Why do we need the power taps to be so right up in the big middle of the dash so when anything is pluged in the wires stick out all over the dash and console?
That's odd, i pulled my coin holder out and there were no wires on it at all. It just pulled right out. I was going to put a 2 inch tachometer in the space (would fit almost perfectly) but the column gear shift would be right in my line-of-sight to it, so that would be pointless. Anyways, there shouldn't be any wires connected to it.
If im not mistaken those wires are for the 4x4 hookup my explorer had the same thign behind the radio wires just attached to blank plastic however it was in the exact spot the 4wd wouldve been
Thank you for your help. After reading a few of your replys I looked again more closely and I think you're right. The wires are just plugged into a "dummy" plastic tab right behind the dumb little coin holder. Probably wires in the standard f-150 harness that don't apply to my vehical. Thanks Guys!!
Now I'll comfortably tear that stupid thing outta there and use the space for something practical.
The coin holder is behind the gear shifter. If you have a 4x4 with the electric switch in the dash, you don't have the cheezy little holder. I have the shift on the floor (4x4), so I got the little rattle trap. I think it's there to just fill the hole in the dash that is for the 4x4 turn swtch.(pending you don't have the switch) I hope this makes sence. It is 5:00 am and my brain is still a little fuzzy.
I have the "flo-through" center console and floor shift lever but I believe Samia is right in that the useless little coin holder is just a plug for the hole where a 4x4 would have an additional selector mounted. Personally I wish they would have placed the switch "button" for the back-up alert in that spot instead. I love my Lariat Screw but I would have arranged the center dash area differently.
