I finally got my Sanderson FF2 headers today. The passenger side fits perfect but the drivers side just rubs on the steering box (ARRRGGGHHH). Would it be okay to put a small dint in the 8th cylinder pipe? They aren't painted yet and I'm not returning them because they have the best fit I can get.
I too wondered about this dueller, But after looking at about 20 or so Sanderson headers at the cars show over the past season and discussing with the owners, they ALL agreed that the silicone did NOT do a good job at all. Every person I spoke with had the copper gaskets and every person is satisfied. I went with copper as well as I did not like the idea to begin with. I do really like my Sandersons though. I had then HTP coated in Utah. Pics in Gallery.
51dueller, funny that you posted this. This whole weekend I was trying to install some headers on my 56. I have the sanderson also, I believe not the ff2? Mine fit on the drivers side but not the passenger side. The collectors on mine are hitting the engine mounts. I even grinded portions of the engine mount to see if that would work. I was told not to make a small dint or use heat and then dent the header because eventually it will crack. In my case, my headers are ceramic coated. I'm really upset that they don't fit because like you they look hot and are probably the closest fit. Since yours are not painted or coated, I would try using a body hammer and gently making an indentation. As far as gaskets? Don't waist your money on cheap ones. Nobody I know uses silicone unless you flanges are really warped. Sanderson has thick flanges so plain gaskets work fine. I usually purchase Fel Pro or Mr. Gasket. Hope this helps.
The first headers I tried rubbed on the engine mounts, starter and pointed right into my dual sump oil pan. I liked the Superman logo on the Sanderson name plate. Too bad no one will ever see it.
call Sanderson and tell them the problem... they have several sets of headers for different 460 applications... they can mix and match till you get a set that fits your application.. It"ll cost you a little shipping but it will be worth it...'specially with what the headers cost !!
I tried three times before I found something that fit with the Volare.. oh yea, then I quit and put in a MII... but the headers fit real nice there
I didn't order them direct from Sanderson and it's too late now. I've already modified the drivers side to fit. I can handle a dint and shipping headers from Canada to the States would cost me alot of money which I don't have. I just need it to warm up so I can paint them and bring the beast to LIFE!
