Any advice? I have a 1972 f100 2wd with a 390 and am wondering what is the best (easiest) way to put passenger side header on. I got the driver side on no problems but when I got to passenger side the header wouldn't fit, then i took the starter out put the header in half way then tried to put the starter in and it just wouldn't fit. Do i have to lift the engine a little or is there a way around that?
If new, what do the instruction say to do? If not, look up/contact the header manufacturer for their instructions.... they're usually posted somewhere online. ... do you know what make and PN of the headers?
For example, I just picked up some brackets and engine mounts to install a 460 into a 4x4 Bump or Dent... found the instructions online.
on my 68 I remember pulling the starter putting header in place (not bolted up ) then wiggling starter in and bolting that in then bolting header in place . it was a P.I.T.A.
if starter ever goes i will be replacing with a mini starter .
You don't say if long tube or short. I installed some long tube in the back in the 70's.
1. way was raise motor and remove frame motors put 1 bolt in the lower end of header to just hold it in place. REPLACE frame mounts. Work starter in while moving header back and forth. Drivers side was also remove frame mount like passenger side. Note was remove frame mount Only if engine could not be raised high enough for header pipes to clear them..
2. Place header into engine bay just before installing lowing engine for it's installation.
(I went with# 2) as it was a new V8 install from a I-6
So it's do what ever you can think of to get them installed.. orich
