Talking Headers on a F250

Hi
I have a F250 from 71 with a C6 tran, P/S, 2 WD and a 460engine and I'm looking for some headers for it.

I called JEGS, but no help from them. They have headers for 74-78, but was not sure if they will fit my truck. He had a side note saying " change of fram rails"

Where and who make headers there will bolt on my truck?

Thanks Jim

Welcome to (FTE)!

I think they should work from the 74-78, because any time that I have put
headers on 351w trucks 65-72 I would order the headers for a 73-79,they
always fit good! Maybe some one else will ring in and say for sure. The frame
in the front is the same 65-78.

Hi Jim, There was no change of frame rails in the engine bay. The reason there is no listing for it, is because Ford didn't install a 460 in your year truck. The engine bay compartment is the same from 65 to 79 for the 2wd. The 74-79 headers should fit. IMHO

Be ready to replace your starter every 6 to 9 months! The Headers simply Cook the starter....even with the thermal racing blanket, I cooked another. I have just decided to accept it as part of "regular maintenance." lol!

I have owned my truck for 5 years with headers and have never had a problem with a starter cooking, I'm not disputing what you say, Unimog005, but I have never had a problem with this. Also, beware of Dynomax headers, they're cheap but you get what you pay for. When I got them, the paint had been badly chipped and scrapped during shipping. And ever after a repaint, the original paint still lifted right off. If you have the cash I would suggest getting a good set of cermaic coated ones, as it will save you a lot of hastle in the long run. Just my 2 cents.

Hi and Thanks to all you guy's

I was looking at some Hedmans Hedders at JEG's, but as jowilkersay Ford did not make trucks with the 460 in 71 and then no listing.
Summit recommende me to give Hedman a call and all I got was they didn't know and if it fit they like to know.
One more time thanks guy's

Don't know what engine you are running, I have had to replace several starters on my FE with long tubes in the last five years, and 28,000 miles. If ya just can't live without em go with shorties.

I have a 70' F-250 with a 390, so I don't know why I haven't had a problem yet, maybe just luck. Has anyone found a solution to the starter cooking problem? I know Unimog005 mentioned a starter thermal blanket, but maybe some thermal header/exhaust wrapping would work, it's supposed to increase power too-anyone have any experience with this?

I used the ceramic coated headman headers and the mini starter. No problems.

headers

Hey gang,

I am putting a 460 in my 68 and I had no end of trouble finding headers to fit. The steering box was in the way. Finally hooked up with L & L products and they got me a set that should do the trick.

Hooker and L&L make a swap kit for the 460 if you buy their motormounts then their headers will fit. the problem is usually doing the swap with factory parts then trying to fit headers.
