Drove the '94 for several hours last night- parked it and this morning she won't start- when I try and crank it, I hear the fuel pump turn on, and then a click as it tries to turn over, and then everything goes dead- all the accesories/lights go out. They stay out for a few minutes, and then they will come back on...same thing happens if I try to crank it again. I've put a voltmeter on the battery and it's showing 12v.
Its either a starter or a lousy connection at one of the battery terminals. A weak connection or corrosion will be fine til the amperage draw of the starter motor tries to pull heavy amperage through it. Make sure you check the block end of the negative cable as well.
It is a loose/corroded battery connection. Clean your battery terminals really good and the places where the wires go too. Make sure your ground wire is clean. It is important! Good luck!
dirty batery terminals. remove them and go buy a battery terminal cleaner and clean them real good. replace cables and cover them with dielectric grease and your problems should be gone.
You guys are right on the money- cleaned the battery terminals...it still wouldn't crank, though until I turned the headlights on and tried to crank it. It sounded like the silenoid was gone. Replaced the starter relay anyway.
