This morning I was on my way to work doing about 30, a light turned red so I let off the gas and coasted, well the light turned green again I got up to about 35 and WAM! my hood flies open leaving me wondering what the hell happened... So I pulled over to the side of the road and tried to get it closed, and it wouldn't go down. So I beat on the spring support a bit and got it free, closed it with no problems until I looked and the alignment of the hood to the fenders. The back of the hood is sitting much lower than before, could anyone give me an idea of what bent that caused that? and could I possibly get a solution to the fix? Thanks!
Ryan
well, i have never heard of this happening, ill bet you that the hinge mechanism gave free, allowing the latch in front to sort of let go of the other part of the latch. do your hinges and springs look ok? (im relatevly sure they look fine, otherwise you'd already know what was wrong, but im just making sure.) I cant think of anything elsae that would let your latch free like that. maybe, you need a new latch, and hinges.
Well...... it was kinda a stupid mistake, I think I may have left it open from the night before, I was kinda tired. So aside from my stupidity, I think it may be the lower part of the hinges becasue they seem to be bent backwards a bit, anyone know where I can find some??
Yeah I was kinda grateful that it didn't break the windshield or damage the roof.
ANdrewdrice- I'll have to check the grave yard, I loosened the bolts to the lower part of the hinge today and moved it all the way up, helped out alot but its still sitting low, thanks for the suggestion!
F-150's 250's and 350's would work too right?
I just checked Jeff's Bronco Grave yard, they have them on there for I think $19 a piece, didn't seem too bad and they're brand new!
Dont feel too bad. That just happened to me a month ago. I forgot I popped it but the second latch never caught and wham! Bent my hood pretty good, but other than that no other damage.
Double check on the years and models that will cross over. Go to a parts store and see if they can pull the latch for an F150 and an F250. If they are the same, hand em back and order one from Jeff's. Or just call a dealer.
Not so much a test fit but side by side comparison. At least then you know what range years and model you can use. Or if you drive the truck there then yea..test fit em.
