it doesnt mean the truck was bought in cali, it just means that it's a "50 state legal" truck is all... the "50 state" trucks are called cali trucks, because the "49 state" trucks are legal everywhere else for sale as far as emissions is concerned.
I unhooked my EGR a few days ago on my 04 (Jan buld date) have driven about 100 mi and no codes according to my edge insight.. I swear i can notice more low end throttle response, my Egt's cool down faster when i stop, I hear my turbo a little more at idle in the pipe, but in the few WOT runs i have maid my boost has gone from 30 down to 25.. but it feals like the truck is faster.. and it seems to still have 1 # of boost at idle sometimes..
Is all of this typical for this mod?
Sorry i did not feal like fliping throw the 50+ pages of this thread after the first 3 or so
Welcome, if you want a crash corse find Bismic and pm him for his 6.0 folder,it should keep you reading for a week.lol
brickie, Thanks for the lead to Bismic. I'll try and PM him. Now, about those economax injectors, what is your mileage? I'm currently getting 16.2 on and off road.

Romeo, I goofed on my first post and restarted the 50+ page thread again in my haste to post. However, My truck is an early 03 with no plate and I just pulled the plug on mine. I have noticed it takes less throttle to move it and the turbo lag has significantly reduces. As for egt's cooling down, I haven't checked, but I did have codes checked and none that are red area only informational codes according to my friend and 05' F350 dually owner mechanic. I have been on and off road from sea level to 3400' on trails in Cali (yes, my truck is a cali) with no sense of change in performance or fuel mileage.
I have an 03 F-250 KR. Jan. Build Date. After reading all this I unplugged my EGR yesterday and now I am in love with my KR again. I have got to haul my 5th wheel before I am totally convinced that I have solved my problems but I am stoaked to say the least. Thanks to all y'all from down here in Gawga.
After reading almost 90% of this post, I tried the unplug EGR. Well the CEL is on.
However the truck runs better. It is 6 spd stick - so the low end toque is bad. Well it is quite better, as the pull up the mtn making RPM from 1800, it really pulls. The turbo appears to come up faster at the low RPM.
I also noted today the POST Turbo Temp was lower. Yes I use POST - it was easy to install and dealer had no issue. Normal pull up the mtn is about 500 to 550 , today it was 400 to 450.
I 'think' water temp was also lower - I have a real gauge. Normal is just over 200, today it was a needle width under 200.
What harm is it to run with the CEL on?
I tried to get a trashed EGR valve from the dealer they laughed since they DO know what I was going to do.
Any one have a source for a DOA one to sell me? I really hate to buy a new one. Just to leave it plugged in on top of the engine.
This is my first post to FTE.
Been on many other sites - so much more information here and drivers do respond to questions.
I have read for hours over the past 3 days.
Thanks -
I saved the ebay url. I will have to wait until later to get it. Looks like it will work fine.
I will reconnect the EGR valve until I get the dummy.
Truck is 3 yrs old with 20K low miles. No real issues - YET
I have 2 yrs to go on the 5 yr warranty of the engine, so I do not want to make too many mods.
The way I drive this truck it will never see 100K.
I disconnected mine a short bit ago put 1500 on it towing through the mountains in Kentucky and TN no issues. I do agree that it responds better(turbo spools faster), no noticeable mileage increase but I did noticed EGT temps dropped around 75-80 degrees on average. I measure pre-turbo at the manifold. This is a very nice benefit. I got the two codes and no eng. check light. I definitely recommend to any one that hasn't done this yet. I was going to do the EGT cooler delete but after disconnecting the EGT circuit and removing the back pressure plate I don't feel the need to do this.

Just so you know, putting on a dummy egr valve will not make your Check Engine Light go out! The 05 and newer trucks use one of the temp. sensors to determine if the valve is open or closed so don't waste your money.
I have had mine unplugged almost all the time for over a year and it will not harm anything by the CEL being lit all the time. But you do want to plug the egr back in occasionally to check if the CEL is coming on for a different reason!
You can get an SCT an run a program that disables the egr without giving you the CEL.

just get an SCT and have the tuner write you a program that disables the EGR function and you can leave it plugged in and there will be no CEL , and it will stay closed.
it WILL run better, but some people have said that their fuel mileage has suffered a tad with it disconnected.
i never really get good fuel mileage anyway, so it was worth it for me to not have all that crap and gunk going thru my piping and intake .. also did the CCV reroute too for the same reason.
interesting, that's the first time i've seen that thing..
do you just leave your egr valve plugged in and hanging out somewhere ??
Even if, it won't work... Trucks that have a CEL with the EGR unplugged, will have on with the EGR plugged in, but not installed in the manifold. I read that there are other sensors that detect the operation of the EGR, not just the EGR reporting on itself. It's cheaper to spot weld the EGR shut, and then turn it off with the X3.
i just got the egr delet kit from liberator and my check engine light is on for insuffiecient exhaust recirculation flow or some thing like that. My question is when i get a xcal 2 all i have to do is disable the egr correct??
