Hello,everyone,
I need some help,Please
I just bought a 428 motor and i'm not really sure if its a cobra jet.
This is the number that I found
intake manifold-C80E 9425C
time timing cover-G8AE-6059-B
oil pan-C7AE 6675 A
Armonic balancer-C8AE A1
crank-1UB
oil filter adapter-C8AE 6881 A
manifold-C8AE-9430-A
rod- C6AE
Head- 9E17 C8AE 4 DIF
I also saw this number on the head 9M12
I was told this motor has been on a barn for 20+ years
Thank you for your help in advanced.
Well, it looks more like a 428 Police Interceptor.
The heads and exhaust manifolds are regular 428 items, you don't see too many of the C8AE heads anymore. The dates for the heads are a little far apart, one is May 17, '69 and the other is Dec. 12, '69 (a '70 production head). I can't remember if the A1 balancer is a CJ or the A2, we went round and round on this a long time ago. Intake is a cast iron CJ/PI, I take it you verified the bore is at least 4.13"
That's true but my friend's '69 GT500 came from the factory with an "A" block, thanks Ford for ripping him off!
Also, a later block should have a parital VIN stamped as described in that site.
Of course, I forgot to mention, there ARE exceptions to these rules. Blocks were substituted when needed for production reasons.... sounds like what happened to your buddy.. does he have a partial vin on his??
Thanks for your help. On the back of the block were there should be the C or A it is very difficult to make out because it looks like a scribble like a star that went wrong. Have any of you seen this before?
