Kill Switch - Anybody got one? Need some help
The car I learned to drive on (75 Lesabre) had a kill switch under the dash that disabled the starter. Preventing someone from hot wiring the car. I'm pretty sure this could be bypassed by messing around with the starter under the hood, especially with 1975 technology.
My first truck (88 F150) had a kill switch under the dash that cut power to the fuel pump. If this is turned off, the truck just won't run. This has an added advantage, if my wife or I were ever car-jacked, if we gathered our wits, we could flip the kill switch and stall the truck instantly, slowing the drivers get-away.
My question is: Anybody have a kill switch? Any advice? Is there a good way to do it on my F250? Are there fuel pump wires I can access under the dash? Will cutting power to the fuel pump hurt anything else unwittingly? Possibly throw a computer code? Anything you can think of really. I'm very open about how to install and where to install the switch.
Ideally, what I'd like to do is have a switch that I flip after the truck is turned off. Preventing theft. Flip it back on before I turn the key and drive away. Also, if I or my wife forgets to flip it before trying to start, nothing bad will happen.
Thanks,
Andy
I made a unit that would kill the power to the fuel pump, ecu (some vehicles we couldn't do this though) the starter switch, and only when the alarm when off the battery 12v would be broken but this also required having a battery backup for the alarm to run off of otherwise the alarm would be turning on and off all by itself.
It depends how much you want to secure your truck. But then it comes down to a few other things How good the theif is and how much he wants your truck, They can tow it or if they want it bad enough and get pi ssed because we made it to dam hard to steal they vandilised the hell out of the car. So sometimes its just better to put in an alarm with a basic starter kill and hook up the alarm to the vehicle horn & aftermarket siren so it makes a $ hit load of noise and wakes you up.
I have made my alarm to blow the horn in an erratic manner (code alarm only feature) short short long, long short, long short long long short etc) and I have it to turn on the interior lights as well as noice and light is a theifs worst night mear, I also put in a strobe light along with one of those cheap radio shack digital pocket cameras so it looks like I am taking pictures of him even though I am not I think that should scare them out real fast.
If you need any help with this I can recomend a few thing for you as far as parts but I would really recomend Code Alarm they are by my opionion the best.
I sold my store so I dont have all the current diagrams but here is a 2000 for the most part Ford keeps the same colors and placments all the time but here it is.

The previous owner(Guess) wired in a AMP type connector and plug under the dash. I never traced it but am guessing it is wired into the key switch on the column since when the plug is gone you turn the key and nothing happens. The wire appears to be at least 10gauge and must be wired in series to the key. It has the usual white rectangular connector which lies up under the column and is easy to snuggle into the wiring bundle. Just looks like a spare connector like several others already under the dash.
You carry the mating plug with you. The mate is just a loop circuit to complete the connection when plugged in. Easy to use but not as convenient as a key, however may be tougher to figure out than a key switch, but once figured out it is jumpable. A thief who didn't know the truck would have to look at several loose plugs to figure it out.
I also discovered another good circuit to use, maybe better than the key switch. The fuel tank switch if the circuit is interrupted will allow the thief to crank the engine but it won't start.
Just a cheap idea.

I have 1 of these on my 55 chevy.
does what it says it will.
