Okay I just searched the site for anything about removing the stupid clamp that holds the downpipe to the turbo to no avail. Am I just not using enough elbow grease? This sucker will not come off for anything . Does anyone have any advice on how I can get this off. I feel really stupid asking for advice on how to take off a stupid clamp. I am no mechanic but I can work on cars and trucks. BTW I have a 2000 7.3 PSD and I putting a 4 in downpipe and exhaust on. Thanks in adance for any help.
mine was just held on by a fancy hose clamp looking thing. i unscrewed it and the bolt fell off the back never to be seen again(but that is another story), i took the clamp off and the pipe came right away from the turbo. now that i think about it more i think i had to take a screw driver and pry on that clamp a little to get it off. try shooting it with some "break free" , "WD-40" or something like that and let it sit for a while then give it another try
Yea I had trouble with that clamp too!! Nice how easy it is to get to huh?? I loosened the clamp and then tapped all around it with a little hammer and it popped right loose - but then I only had about 15,000 miles on my truck when I put the exhaust on it. Spray some WD-40 on it and let it soak in - then tap lightly around it. If that doesn't work I'd probably get under the truck and give the down pipe a couple good whacks with a bigger hammer.....
Thanks a lot for the fast relpy. I'll have to wait til tomorrow though That stupid Hurricane is hitting the coast tonight and the rain has already started here. Good to know that I'm not the only one to have a problem with this.
Flinn, when I did my down pipe I just loosend the clamp bolt and too the pipe loose from the cat and wiggled the pipe from the bottom (more leverage) and it popped loose. Hope that helps.
