I was wondering if anyone can tell me about the drawbacks (if any ) to shaving the head of my 300 six cylinder? I was thinking of shaving it 5 or 6 thousandths. What kind of power increase would I see?
Thanks
Shaving the heads is ONE way to gain a little compression and pick up performance. The right way to do it is to get pistons that will put the compression where you want it. It is sometimes hard to find pistons that will do what you want without paying a lot of money for customs slugs. I am not very familiar with the 300 but you will not be gaining a huge amount of compression by shaving the heads. You might be able to go from 8.5:1 to 9:1 before the head gets too thin to shave anymore.
My experience has been that even a half a point in compression is a big difference. New pistons are not economically feasible A head shave is. I do not need to add tons of hp,just enough to make it peppy. So 25 horse is all I am really looking for, that coupled with a lower rearend ratio. (I have 3:07 right now). Will be all I need I think.
