i have a 94 f150 5.0, 2 wheel drive truck, it is in awesome physical condition, but has 129,000 on the motor. i want it to be kinda quick. there are alot of mustangs and camaros in my town that all think there badass. needless to say i wanna smoke a few of them. if i went and pulled my motor and rebuilt it with some good pistons and bored it out and all those goodies that would go in it to, plus put a supercharger on it. how would my onboard computer react to all of this. i mean my worry is that i will do this but then be screwed because my computer is messing it up by like not allowing enough fuel or somthing. what problems do you guys think i'll run into and how to solve them if possible. thanks alot, i'm just finishing up my frame off restoration on my 79 f250 4x4. so i'll be able to drive that cause this i'm sure will take awhile. and plus going to the local community college on top of that. so yea it'll take awhile.
thanks alot, ahead of time.
p.s.- any suggestions on cam and heads and what not
You are fighting an uphill battle outrunning cars. In addition to having to outhorse them greatly, you are going to have to do significant suspension work. My best advice is build in the 9.5 to 1 range on compression ratio. Ford gt40-x heads are great, there are also numerous other choices. You are either going to have to go to carb, or use larger injectors and use aftermarket chip. There are several good cam choices, but they all depend on your transmission, rear end gear. You can supercharge or you can use nitrous, it just all depends on how much money you want to drop. You really should just go ahed and stroke to 347 ci. If it were me, I would just start out with a 351w in the first place. You can make lot cheaper h.p. with 351.
just in case you you are wondering, the mustangs out there are severely built, esp. fox bodies. i am registered on stangnet and have 4 stangs of my own and most of the folks on that site are blown and turboed pushing more than 450 hp. most of them are 351's,and 5.0's but a lot of them are stroked out based on those 2 engines.they are lighter, more aerodynamic and have better geometry in the suspensions. so if you wanna beat them, like said already, you need to lose a lot of weight or have way more power or both.
