Hey all,
I have read on here about people having problems getting there intakes to seal, if their heads have been shaved. I shaved my heads .020, will I need to shave my intake as well?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-12-03 AT 11:44 AM (EST)]Well the best thing to do is test fit the intake before you put it back together.
With the engine on the engine stand place the intake on without any gaskets and take a light and check for air gaps between the heads and intake. They should fit flat top to bottom. If there is air gaps(Say it touches at the bottom but has an 1/16" gap at top) then you'll have to have the intake milled to get a flat fit.
Don't worry about the end gap you'll be using Silicon on those.
how is cutting the deck surface of the heads going to change the angle of the intake mating surface? even if the intake mating surface isn't perpendicular (double word score)to the deck surface, the angle will be the same. i thought the reason to cut the intake was to maintain port and bolt hole relationships?
One side may have been cut a hair more than the other, but also what is usually cut on the intake is where it rests on the block. It is also possible for the intake to be warped, causing a lack of sealing. Most good machine shops cut the top of the block also, though.
