i was wondering if it was possible to put a flip switch some where under the dash so even if u have the key the truck wont turn on. i was looking at my trusty haynes book maybe if i put inline the run wire? i have a 1981 f-100 with duraspark II.Any ideas?
If you have an automatic, you could find the red/blue wire coming off the ignition switch on top of the steering column under the dash, and cut it and run it through a switch. This won't let the starter turn over. I guess if you have a manually tranny someone could still roll it down the hill and pop the clutch though.
If that wire is broken, no damage will occur. If they leave everything on, and you come by later, the battery may be dead, but what will happen is the starter won't turn over if the switch is flipped. If they want to really get your truck, they could go out and jump across the starter relay, but you can prevent this by locking the hood. Ford had a remote underdash lock for the hood. My 1980 has one.
The wire you found is probably a dash illumination wire. You said it was blue/red. What you need to find is a red/blue. The first color listed is the main color of the wire, and the second color is the stripe or hash marks. If you go out and look at your starter relay, it will have this same color wire on it, because that's where it eventually ends up after going through the neutral start switch on the tranny.
