That's my theory and I'm stickin' with it until someone can confuse me with some facts.

coogan1 flat rate tech is here http://6literpowerstroke.flatratetech.com/. It is a site of techs. They have a forum and all sorts of good info.

Interesting thread!

Wow! Lots of good information here, and it appears a cat-back application is in the near future for me. Now, I guess the serious product searching starts.
I'm glad I found this web site, and thanks to all that post their opinions, experience- both good and bad- and the sponsors.
This 6.0 really has been a good choice for me so far, with about 15,500 miles and no problems yet. I guess this is the American way, always looking for " a little more".

John Russell, Welcome to the FTE. Good bunch here and a good source of knowledge. If you have 15K miles you have some experience with the truck. Anything you learn, you can share here.

Keep in mind, my theory on the exhaust is theory. I have documentation that has lead me to that theory. I don't have a lab to prove it out, but it is worth thinking about. In the performance circles, there is plenty of study on "tuned exhaust". I don't see why that doesn't apply here.

Just a quik note- my local diesel performance shop here in Calgary swears by the cat back systems for the 6.0. The 04 motors do not have a squished downpipe, it is a smooth flowing job and my shop here says anything more than a good catback on the 6.0 is a waste of money. Also mentioned that the catback "lowers egt's in the neighborhood of 200 degrees".

I have no idea if this is true, but they do several per week and seem to be straight up guys. I think I will go this route, seems logical with warrentee stickiness and all.

The cat back (or really the elimination of the HUGE stock muffler) will lower egts, but the turbo back will lower it even further....

I think I recall that the cat back gives you about 70% of the benefit of the turbo back with good smooth bends...

the cat back is only .5 inch larger pipe, and the stock is already fairly smooth tho.

i bet the 200deg drop is just from the removal of the muffler.....IMO
i have been told by many and my opinion is also: the DP on an 03 is the only real restriction, other than the muffler, in the exhaust. but i am also quite cheap so i dont wanna shell out the bucks for a "only slightly better" exhaust.

especially when i could buy a 4" DP, put on a 4-5" adapter and a piece of 5" pipe that Y's into two 5"stacks!!! and have 250 bucks in it, plus 50 to have it all put on

anybody thinkin of stacks? www.grpipes.com is awesome for exhaust systems for BIG trucks. and they install 'em. theyre in cleveland OH

I have an 03 f-250 6.0 diesel and i had a 4 inch down pipe and exhaust i have no muffler no cat and no ressinator the stock exhaust looked like soup straws when i layed beside each other. It sounds awsome because you can hear the turbo so loud it hurts you hears. Also i have been getting like a exhaust shutter to it at 3000 to 4000 rpm and i have a superchip max microtuner 1704 in to. A new cummins pulled up beside me at a red light and the next stop light was about a mile away and i asked him if he wanted to race and he said yeah but i rather be cummin than strokin and i beat him so bad than he said he wasnt even trying to. and he had a bullydog programmer.
