I honestly cannot tell you exactly the module does. It might also send some other kind of signals to the computer as far as I know. All I know is I have had a problem that sounds a lot like yours. It was easy to do and it fired right up. I think I even had it tested and they said it was good, but it really wasn't.

Stone dead-runs again!
Replaced the ignition module today and it fixed it! Talked to a workshop about the problem, and they said it was a typical sign when the motor stops and you had to wait a while to start again, the ignition module is failing. Thanks for all YOUR answers, it convinced me to changed the ignition module and it helped. My friend who ownes the truck is very happy to get the truck in buisness again.
