I have had several 4x4's over time, and they have all been muddy or stuck at some time. I just bought a 97PSD 4x4. I took it to my property and played around with the 4WD. Everything works good, but i found that I am used to spinning the tires wit a gasser to clean the mud out of the treads. While in my PSD today I felt my tires getting full of clay.(Cooper Discoverer 285/75/16).
knowing that my tires were full of mud, I gasssed it a couple of times to clear the mud out. I noticed that the PSD doesn't want to tach up quickly and I feel like the truck is going to have to hit second gear before the tires turn fast enough to sling off the mud. This was in 4H. just can't bring myself to flooring a diesel to hear it scream.
Any input or advice?
Sorry guys-
I appreciate the feedback but I can't bring myself to just flooring this thing in 3rd or 4th on slick red clay with trees on both sides. I have no doubt that this truck has the torque,I want my full 500K miles before i tear it up My truck is staying on top of the clay just that top 1" of the clay is SLICK from recent rains. I do understand the basics of turbo lag, but in an off camber hill with the front wheel turned left, the truck pushes the front end out to the right (mud plugged tires). When I start sliding i need the tires to start spinning now! My future plans are gauges, then a 3.5" downpipe and a straight 4" out in front of the rear tire. That and a Tymar should reduce the lag some I'm guessing. The top inch of clay is what's plugging my tires.
This particular road is on my property and I will be building up there this summer and winter. I'm wondering if an aggressive tire would do better (thornbird, buckshot, ground hawg, etc). I might need to get a mean set of tires for winter and another for summer.I appreciate the suggestions.

Reason: my medicationis kicking in!
I guess that 4L might work, but 4h won't sling any mud out until 2nd gear. I have no doubt that it will accelerate quicker in 4L, but top speed would have to be much lower. I guess that it all depends on your situation.
F350 mountain hound-
You can rest assured that my truck functions as a truck every day. Building a house right now, make service calls and product deliveries. Horse feed and hay, lumber, lumber, lumber,.
I am not in a position to be able to get by without my truck. I'm not scared to run it, I just know better. I have had a 78SWBF-150, 10"lift, 44" ground hawgs, racing buckets with 5-point harnesses, hot 400 (not 351), full gauges tilted racestyle =(you can twist all the gauges so that a good reading puts the needle pointing up.) One quick glance and keep mashing it! I'll do it again oneday, but I need to be a little conservative on this one for now.
