Mud Tires

Hey all, I have a 97 4x4offroad f150 ext cab 4.6v8

She does great in the mud, snatchin out lesser trucks. But I need some good mud terrains, before my luck runs out!! The Kuhmo Mut Terrains look very aggressive, What about the Cooper STT m/t. What would you experts recommend? I love the way the BFG m/t look but i know too many people that werent happy with them.

So any recommendations would be appreciated, Thanks.

* Mainly go threw real wet, and real goopey stuff, occasionaly sand.

Highway noise doesnt bother me much, But i want them to last a long time, and drive good on the road

i don't know who you know..but i'm not aware of anyone who didn't like the BFG mud terrains for an all around good road/mud/dirt tire. Its won on almost every poll we've had here.

edit: I'm on my second set...80K miles and only two stucks...both times no tires were touching the ground.

I had the Cooper STTs on my '99 F150 with the 5.4, and they did real well in mud and snow. In sand/wet gravel they sucked when inflated at 40lbs. If you spun the tires over once they would dig themselves in about 6", I didn't have any way to air down and get aired back up, so if your going to play in the sand with these I'd reccomend airring down. All in all I thought they were great tires.

If your on a tight budget, my buddy ran a set of General Grabbers on his truck and they also do real well for a cheaper tire.

I love my Firestone Destination Mt's they seem like better rubber then the BF's. You can check both spec's at www.tirerack.com

I am torn on this subject also! I would really like a set of Super Swamper LTBs, I don't want to run a bias ply tire though. They don't do as well on the street. I have been looking at the BFGs...don't like the price. I really like the look of the Dunlop Mud Rovers. My little brother is running 30x9.50 General Grabber MTs on his 85 S10 Blazer, they look bad a$$ and they hook up pretty nice too. They were pretty cheap for a set of 4...less than $400 bucks

Zman the BFG mud terrains are pretty good tires off road and will last longer than most other mud tires. i think you may be confused about people not liking the BFG All Terrain tires, they are not good in the mud at all.
i think you would be happy with the mud terrains as they are good on and off road, if you look at the tread design it is very similar to most other mud tires on the market.

I totally agree. I hear the toyo muds are a good option too, but the bfg is tried and true.

the 35" BFG MT's i bought for my truck only had 40% of the tread left when i got them(for 100 bucks) and they STILL surprised me when i took the truck to the river to try em' out, i think they look as good as they grip in the mud....they still dont beat interco's but they are worth the money....

I was looking at my dads tires and...

...if you are willing to cut out lugs, then get a Yokohama AT and cut out every other lug (all small lugs) and the void will be about 1.5" between each lug, and about .5" deep. They wont be boggers, but they will be better than any mud terrain.

BFG mt's are great. Mine did great in the sand, that was about the only place I got to wheel 'em since my truck was still stock. I took 'em off my truck 3 years ago, they've been sitting on the side of my house ever since then and they STILL have air in 'em (on factory rims).

My next set I think is going to be the Toyo MT's. My parents have a set on their rig and they're really nice. Only thing that sucks is that they don't make the size I want in a 16.5 rim so I'm gonna have to upgrade to a 17 when my SSR's wear out.. ugg..

i ran the Dunlop Mud Rovers on my old jeep, from what i understant of these tires, they do MUCH better on lighter trucks/suvs. They wore well and performed great on my jeep. In one case i had to pull a buddy of mine outta a deep mudhole. He was up to his frame with 8in of lift on his jeep. I only had 2wd at the time because my front drive shaft was in he middle of a rebuild. Anyway the tires hooked up well with very little slippage and pulled him right out. These tires seem to be significantly cheaper than competitors. I never got to see how many miles i'd get outta them as i sold the Jeep and got my F150!! Yea buddy

Try Ground Hawgs, they come in radials (which I have never tried though).
