This Site Has Saved Me Lots Of Bucks. Thanks To All You Knowledgable Guys. Now, Can Anyone Help Me With The 02 Sensor/driver Side For A 1999 Extend Cab Ranger? The Code Is P1151. Where Is It And How Do I Change It? Thanks.
Melanie
P1151 = Lack of HO2S-21 Switch, Sensor Indicates Lean
It is your driver's side, front 02 sensor (before the cat convertor).
Keep in mind that the 02 sensor indicating lean might mean that somehwere along your driver's side bank of cylinders there is unmetered air being allowed inside, due to something such as a vacuum leak.
Thank you for your response but I have no idea what that means. There's a CAT in my truck A couple of months ago my check engine light went off, it turned out to be the DPFE sensor, which you described perfectly how to repair, there was even a photo for what it looked like. I replaced it within 20 minutes, just me and my girl self. Is this o2 thing as easy a fix??? Thanks for your help.
Melanie
OK, the oxygen sensor looks like this (it's the silver metallic thing that is sticking straight up out of the exhaust pipe in the pic below):
.
Your truck has three 02 sensors all together. The one throwing the code is located on the driver's side exhaust manifold.
All 02 sensors are threaded on one end and screw into the exhaust. AutoZone etc. has 02 sensor sockets that you can borrow which makes removing them a lot easier. If there is a lot of rust or corrosion evident, spray down the threaded area first with penetrating oil real good several hours beforehand and even overnight. When you're ready to actually remove it, disconnect the wire connector to the 02 sensor first before putting the socket or wrench on it.
Also, make sure you disconnect the negative battery cable and leave it off while you do the job.
