About that D1VE block again...

After some further analysis of Tom Monroe's V8 rebuilding book, I've come to a conclusion (Please correct me if I'm wrong):

The D1VE block is a '71 block with 10.31" deck height which is lower than the deck height on a '86 460 engine (the one I want to replace).

This means that given the same heads, I would have a slightly higher compression ratio.

Can anyone tell me off the top of their heads how much cc the early-mid-80s 460 heads have?

Thanks.

Ben

No, that's all wrong. Higher deck means lower compression.

Ok let's get it straight now. If he has a 86 engine and he puts his 86 heads on a 71 block he will gain compression. However the difference of using a .010" of shorter deck height block is'nt going to give you even a 1/10th of a point in compression gain. What are you trying to build maybe I can help you. Tom

Damn! I was reading this thread and started to get excited!!! The 460 I've got in the machine shop is a 71 block w/73 heads.
