I wish I could get an old syle floor shifter. Tried to order one but can't. I have thought about looking into how I could put one in but have not had the time. I will be interested in any feedback from someone who has tried this. Is there a kit?
va_redneck: nothing engages. sometimes you can see the diff spin, but the 4x4 still won't engage. In previous messages I stated that the 4x4 light on dash will flash on and off but w/no engagement. This happens when cruising at any speed and since the r/f hub assembly was replaced (again) it doesn't flash as much, but will come on when braking. With the diesel there is no rear end with this truck and even with BF A/T's the back tires spin like no tomorrow in the littlest of mud. It would be interesting if we could install floor shifter, wouldn't it? Especially if we could get a kit at the same price as the shaft assembly that 99 sd V10 mentioned. I doubt though since I would imagine the transfer case would aslo need to be replaced. Speaking of dealers va_red, I'm in the NOVA area, and even went into West by God with no luck. I bought the truck in Marshall and when I test drove it with only 25 miles on it the 4 by light had come on with clicking. Bought the truck anyways because I couldn't find one anywhere and that's when the first GEM module was replaced wich fixed the problem for a few months.
Could be the servo on the transfer case. I've done all sorts of things with the vacuum system on my '01 testing the hubs (ESOF), because the left one was disengaging after vacuum is turned off (20 seconds after putting it into 4x4 with the ****). And, it never flashed the 4x4 light.
The only thing I can see that would flash that light is the servo itself hanging up. The clicking is the servo not engaging - it's also possible the shift rod that the servo moves in the transfer case is not moving and you have bigger problems, inside the transfer case.
