Manual locking hub question

I have a 99 F250 with manual 4x4 hubs. The writing on one of the hubs (lock and free) has rubbed off and is no longer visible. I do not use the truck much and would like to be able to make sure the hub is not locked. The wheel is on the passenger side. The hub on the driver's side is readable so it is not a problem. Is there a way to check if the hub is locked or free. I could then mark it for future reference. Thanks for any advice .

Lift it with a jack and turn the tire, if the axle turns it is locked, if it doesn't it's open. it'd be good to check both ways though so you can be sure that it is in fact locking and unlocking.

PS it's prolly the same as the other side, ie clockwise locked counterclockwise unlocked or visa-verse
