frame problems

ok i am under the impression that sometime in the 73-79 era the frames of our trucks were changed, i have a 78 f-250, 4x4, it had a 400 in it, i am going to put a 390 in it. can i use engine towers from any of the 73-76 trucks that came with a fe that were 4x4 or am i going to have to use 73-76 f-250 FE engine towers. or will anything that fit an FE from any 73-76 model even bolt onto the newer 78 model frame

any truck that came with an fe motor should work. i dont really know why your doing this though, a 460 would be a pretty direct bolt in. im going from a 360fe to a 460. i think this would make more power with more cubes. if im missing something would someone please let me know.

nostalgia, love of the FE, becuase it is kindov a rarity around here (heck anybody can throw a 460 in there) and i have 2 390's and a 360 and 2 c-6's to go behind FE's so parts are abound. and honestly i dont want to follow the trend, i'm not in any way downing the 460 they are awsome engines, i'm gonna help my bro put one in his bronco with a new ZF, its just not for me, i want to be the one guy out on the trail or steet that has something different to talk about then the same old my built 460 will out do out pull out run your biult 460,
do you know what i mean. and to be really honest i just like the ol' 390s
back on topic though i can get engine mounts out of any 4x4 that had a FE in it and they should bolt into my frame?

and on a side note as long as neither one of us goes to any extremes.i think i can build a 390 that will run with your 460 all day long. i'm not saying i'm gonna stomp you into the ground but within reason i think they can be built with close to the same power for about the same money.

70 more cubic inches are a lot to fight. But then again Im no big block fan either. Whats important is that you build your truck the way you want it.

im not trying to start a debate, just trying to see someone elses point of view for something because theyre reasoning could eventually become my own. personally, with these old motors, an engine is an engine is an engine for the bigger part anyway. so nostalgia or trying to be different don't really do anything for me, its all about the cubes. if there were a solid reason like, the fe will do something or other that the 385 series wont do, then i'd consider going with another fe. around my area, not having a honda is being different

i am a definite FE fan. i would love a 390 in my truck eventually.

it is true that a 460 would pretty much be a drop in to replace the modified, and that you will have to do more work to get the FE in there, but it's worth it if thats what you want..

doing a frame off resto like i'm doing it wont be that big of a deal to do an FE swap, but with the truck together the 460 would be a much more simple route to go.
