390 Motor swap

ok so im doing a body and motor swap of a 69 body to a 79 frame... now i know 73-76 these fords had the 360-390s in them. now did they change the towers on the from 1973-79.... im hoping just to use 360-390 motor mounts from 73-76 on the 79 frame. Will this work? sorry if im going in circles didnt really know how to explain it.

Yes , use the FE mounts for 73 and newer they will work . I just removed a 360 from my 73 and dropped in a 302 . I removed the FE towers and changed the towers for 79 302. I'm not sure if the 79 frame will have holes for the FE towers as I never checked that close. If not just drill them in.

Right now the truck has modified towers so yes those will have to be changed? Or use the 73-76 390 motor mounts and drop it in?

If you can find the 360/390 mounts for the 73 to 77 , it will be an easy job. I don't know how hard it is to find towers in your area , but I do see them on E-bay some times. They will bolt in as the frame from 73 to 79 is the same. One thing I never ask was . Is it 2 wheel or 4x4 drive ? I'm talking about 2 wheel so if it's a 4x4 I may be completely wrong.

Found out the I6 4x4 towers are the same as the FE so some 73-76 360/390 motor mounts should do the trick that's for all the input y'all

I have never laid my hands on the I-6 4x4 perches but the stock FE perches (from a 76 truck) in my 79 4x4 held my 390 way too high.

These are the 79 mounts, my opinion is they should have been moved back about 2 inches. I'll get to that someday.

i just used the motor mounts from the old truck ,the transmission was the only hickup ,the c-6 in the older truck had the n.s.s on the column ,and on the 79 the n.s.s was on the tranny itself ,so i had to frankenstien the c-6

There aren't any towers (aka stands, perches) with 4WD, because there's no engine crossmember to bolt them to.

4WD engine supports bolt to the inner frame rails / 390's were not available w/4WD / FE engines cancelled at the end of the 1976 model run.

Good choice on putting in a 390. I really like the one in mine. Good luck with the swap.
