The 351M that is in my 79 F150 4x4 w/ NP 435/205 is tired. I really like the 390 I have in my 2wd. I have a spare 390 that could be rebuilt. I know that 77-79 4x4s didn't have FE engines. My understanding is that F150 4x4 frames didn't change between 73-79. 77 1/2-79 F250 frames are narrower behind the cab but unchanged cab forward. 73-76 4x4's used 360 FE motors. Is there any reason I can't put my FE into my 79? Were the engine towers changed between 76 and 77? I know in 2wd, that 300 engine tower is the same as the FE tower. Were there 4x4 towers for a 300 in 77-79? Are bellhousings a standard depth? Has anybody here put an FE into a 78-79 Bronco or 77-79 F150? I may just have the 351M rebuilt or possibly rebuilt as a 400, but I'd like to use my 390.

 

My brother has a 360/435/205 in his 77. Used the stock 6 cyl frame mounts and re-positioned them on the frame (cant remember if it was forward or backwards) and bolted right in.
