Hey guys..
I'm having a little problem..I just recently did a conversion from EFI to carb. My carburetor wont idle barely at all..My gas pedal seems kinda hard to push lol but my carb will idle up..and then idle down and fall on its face. Any clues on what to do? I have the throttle linkage hooked up and everything. Do I need a new gas pedal? Could it be the coil or do I need a fuel pressure regulator? I've got the whole carb setup..like with the fuel tank and pickup from a carb. engine so I wouldnt think i'd need a regulator.
What kind of intake do you have that will accept a Q-Jet? Not an adapter I hope.
Have you adjusted the idle mixture screws on the bottom front of the carb? Could also be a vacuum leak.
I have an edelbrock performer intake..and yes I am using an adapter..whats wrong with using an adapter? Right texan . I chose to go with carb because I put a bigger engine in my 86 f-150 had a 302 and I put a 351w in it..It was an unbearable amount of things that I would have to get if I would have made the 351w fuel injected. I would have had to get all the stuff for 351w emmisions..A new computer..an upper and lower intake...new fuel rails..new exhaust manifold to accept the egr valve whereas in a 302 the egr tube is in the intake..the 351w is in the exhaust manifold. lol just too much junk that I would have had to get..so I figured I'd go with carb and I really like all the things you can do with a carbureted engine and how you can actually see the darn thing lol . anyways..maybe its timing? I haven't used a timing light on it..I just set #1 on tdc and moved the dist. till it started..
Well, Most Q-jets are not designed to work on a Ford, except for some of the old 429SCJ's. Adapters like that kind of defeat the purpose of a dual plane intake because the are open in the center and allow the air/fuel mixture to enter both sides of the plenum instead of being divided.
What tranny do you have? If it's an auto, how do you have the kickdown hooked up?
This might have something to do with the linkage trying to stick too.
I have a c6..but I never had the tranny kickdown hooked up because its locked up inside the transmission. It hasn't been hooked up since i've had the truck.
Muddn
p.s.
I've seen guys put quadrajets on fords..just do a search in this forum on quadrajets..you'll see what im talking about
